Every few years, SDG&E submits a forecast of future costs to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to set rates that adequately provide safe and reliable gas and electric service to our customers. The proceeding, called the General Rate Case (GRC), is subject to a rigorous review process by the CPUC and other stakeholders and interested parties. Recently, the CPUC ruled on several changes that will become effective December 1, 2017.

What changed and why?

The decision established new time periods for Time-of-Use (TOU) rates and changed the month of May from a Summer month to a Winter month. The new seasonal periods are:
Summer: June 1 – October 31
Winter: November 1 – May 31

The previous on-peak period of 11am to 6pm has been in place since the 1980s. As more renewable energy is available during the day, the peak period has shifted to later in the day, resulting in the new time of use periods below. These new time periods will become effective on December 1, 2017 and will apply to most business customers but customers should check their pricing plan for their specific changes. Decorating Tips

Windows should be attractive day and night. Set up timers for your lights to make sure the street is festive and brightly lit until midnight every night. Timers are available for purchase at OB Hardware. Check your lights and displays each day to make sure everything is functioning properly and looking great. Not sure where to get lights? From the San Diego County Department of Agriculture, Weights and Measures

We have previously reached out to you to share information about the locally declared public health emergency due to the ongoing hepatitis A outbreak and what you can do to disinfect public restrooms or common areas you may have as part of your business operations.  We wanted to follow up and share with you the attached posters that you can print and display at your place of business as a reminder that washing hands stops germs, can prevent the spread of hepatitis A, and keeps us healthy. Please feel free to also share this information with your membership or partner contacts. 

The outbreak is being spread person-to-person and through contact with fecal contaminated environments. The majority of people who have contracted hepatitis A during this outbreak have been homeless and/or illicit drug users.  Efforts of the County and its community partners to halt the hepatitis A outbreak focus on three key areas: vaccination (for the at-risk populations), sanitation, and education.

Our 2017 Shop Small campaign is going to be the best yet!! There are plenty of ways for all our members to get involved.

SHOP SMALL PASSPORT CARD:

We are creating a Shop Small OB Passport card. 20,000 cards will be distributed along with the Beacon throughout Ocean Beach and Point Loma. Participating businesses will receive a special hole punch; customers will come to your storefront to receive a punch starting at our launch event on Small Business Saturday (Nov. 25). On or before December 20, they’ll turn in their cards for a chance to win great prizes!

Participation is FREE for OBMA members!!!!

You must provide at least one prize worth at least $25 (merchandise or gift card).

SPACE IS LIMITED!!!! To participate, please bring your prize to the OBMA office at 1868 Bacon St. starting at 9am on Thursday, October 19. You must provide your prize to reserve your space. First come, first served! (You may send a proxy.)

Cards will be distributed along with the Peninsula Beacon on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 23. Additional cards will be available at participating businesses and at the OBMA office.

Participating businesses will receive a small countertop display with complete contest information, a special hole punch, extra blank cards, and an envelope to collect completed cards.

Don’t have a storefront or didn't make the card deadline? You can still participate by providing a prize for the drawing! Businesses contributing prizes will be acknowledged on our campaign website.

SHOPLOCALOB.COM:

Our special campaign website will feature all businesses participating in the passport card as well as any other members who provide prizes or support for the campaign.
