URGENT RESPONSE NEEDED TODAY TO HELP OUR BUSINESS COMMUNITIES

Hello OBMA Restaurants and Retailers

Please respond by 5pm TODAY, FRIDAY, 12/11/20 by simply clicking on the teal button below to email your support of the COVID County Resolution Letter.

The OBMA is joining the Little Italy Association in an attempt to present a COVID County resolution and its supporters to Supervisor Fletcher and the rest of the Board of Supervisors by Monday afternoon.

Please read the attached resolution (click on the yellow button).

A few key points are listed below:

Keep in mind that halting the spread of the COVID 19 virus is paramount and all of us must do our part to wear a mask at all times, socially distance and not attend gatherings over 6 people.  However, these issues must be altered to allow our districts to survive until regular business can occur this Spring.  We considered the following:

  1. The California Restaurant Association had a very favorable ruling by a Superior Court Judge ruling in favor of their opposition to the complete restaurant shut down of outdoor seating in Los Angeles County;
  2. San Diego has yet to hit the 85% threshold of ICU beds taken and being used.   We are currently at 80% capacity and have opportunities for many more ICU beds.
  3. Being part of the mega-region which totals over 10 counties and 20 million people makes no sense and is harming our ability to re-open our business districts.
  4. The three week shut down is arbitrary since it has not been demonstrated that outdoor dining has led to the spread of the virus (Read the article on the CRA vs Dept. of Health/LA)

We are strongly urging the County to take us out of the mega-region and allow outdoor dining and outdoor retail to open as of Saturday December 19th.  This will give everyone a chance to at least earn some revenue prior to the Christmas holiday – which is everyone’s busiest time of the year.

If you have questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to OBMA.

Tell the small businesses on your Main Street that they can learn more and apply by December 11 at ebay.helloalice.com. $20M additional funding for their small businesses

How Do You Arts + Culture

Hello OBMA Members,

During a special meeting  yesterday, the County of San Diego Supervisors approved $20M additional funding for their small business stimulus grant program.

You can read the details here. Scroll down to page 9. During the meeting the "events industry" (including events like street fairs) was added to the list of eligible organizations.

On behalf of Arts+Culture:San Diego I called in and made comments to request that all organizations, including non-profits, would be eligible for this any any future funding. This was confirmed by staff during discussion.

Grants will be available for each County District. According to the discussion, applications will once again be accepted through the County website and it is expected that the application will be live as soon as tomorrow.
Finally, we will be working to build awareness of the negative impacts of the pandemic on Arts+Culture organizations and we would love your organization to consider participating in that discussion. If you would like to be included, please let me know by clicking here.
