More Help For Small Businesses And Nonprofits Is Here

Frame work for the future of San Diego County

A message from the County of San Diego

Supervisor Nathan Fletcher, The San Diego & Imperial Small Business Development Center (SBDC), and The San Diego Foundation have once again partnered to make sure business owners and non-profit leaders can access the available resources. Starting today, businesses and nonprofits can sign-up to secure a share of $500 million in state funds here.

“It’s been a very difficult year for the business community, particularly our small businesses; that is the reason we have worked hard to provide relief and help during this difficult time.  I am excited to work with the San Diego & Imperial SBDC Network and The San Diego Foundation again to deliver funding, information and technical support for businesses and nonprofits. The $500 million in grants from the State of California and the federal government’s renewal of PPP, and the roll out of grants for live venues will be vital to the recovery of San Diego County businesses in the New Year.”

-Supervisor Fletcher, Co-Chair of the County’s COVID-19 subcommittee

The deadline to apply is January 8, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. This is not a first come first serve grant. All applications will start to be reviewed following the closure of the application period. These grants are to cover business expenses and specifically for small businesses hit by the pandemic.

How to Use the EDD Workshare Program to Retain Employees!

General EDD Workshare Program highlights:

  • The EDD Workshare Program is a win-win for both employer and employee.
  • This plan for Workshare through EDD is a worthwhile program for our local merchants. It allows the business to keep valued employees even if they have to reduce their hours by 10 to 60%. With the workshare program, the employer has a way to reduce payroll expenses while giving the employee a job that also allows them to collect a portion of unemployment benefits to supplement their reduced income.
  • There is no penalty for the employer.  Now that it is easier for employers to sign up for this program because it is all online, we hope you will seriously consider the EDD Workshare Program as an option to keep your business financially viable through these COVID times.
  • Please listen to the webinar on youtube to learn more about the program.

If you have questions please call the OBMA office at (619) 224-4906 and either Kristen or Denny will assist you.

A message from the County of San Diego's Communications Director

“The State and the County are analyzing the scope of the ruling and discussing next steps which includes seeking clarity from the court,” county Communications Director Mike Workman said in a statement. “Until we have clarity, we have suspended enforcement activities against restaurants and live entertainment establishments.

“With record numbers of new infections, deaths, and ICUs at capacity, we want to remind everyone to do your part. Please don’t gather, socially distance, wear a face covering, and wash your hands.”
