California Utilities changed the way they charge for energy based on when customers use it. Energy costs more during times of peak demand, which can occur anytime – but is most likely to happen during the summer. Peak hours during the summer (May 1 – October 31, 2017) are weekdays between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Weekends and holidays are considered off-peak. Prices are lower during these low-demand times. If your business is enrolled in a Time of Use Plus plan, that means you must participate in Reduce Your Use Days. When a Reduce Your Use event day is called, it’s important to conserve electricity because it will cost significantly more during 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. You can also manage your energy use and lower your bill by knowing how you use energy. Log in to My Account and receive access to an energy management tool that helps you see an overview of your business’s energy use, analyze your bill, learn about energy-saving actions, and more. You can also keep track of your energy use and be notified of Reduce Your Use days when you sign up for email or text alerts in My Account. When in My Account, visit “Alerts and Subscriptions” and click on “Alerts” to subscribe.
