Point Loma Summer Concerts Presents 2023 Summer Season

Auditions for Junior Stage opening acts, Patriotic Singers of All Ages, and Junior Emcees

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – April 18, 2023 – The Point Loma Summer Concerts (PLSC) will celebrate their 21st season this year with free outdoor summer concerts, from July 14 through August 11, 2023, with a different theme every week.

“Our concert series is one of the best things about summer in San Diego,” said PLSC Marketing Director Joel Ellazar. “We have one of the longest and growing concerts in the county and these concerts provide a great chance for neighbors and families to gather for a relaxing evening of picnicking, entertainment, and great music.”

Attendees can enjoy the performances at Point Loma Park, 1049 Catalina Blvd, San Diego, CA 92106 on the dates listed below. All concerts begin at 5:30 p.m. and are free.

  • Big Time Operator (40’s) – July 14
  • Scot Bruce ELVIS (50’s) – July 21
  • Beatles vs Stones (60’s) – July 28
  • Full Strength (70’s) – August 4
  • DSB Journey (80’s) – August 11

Point Loma Summer Concerts will also hold in-person auditions for Junior Stage opening acts for their upcoming 2023 summer season. The auditions will be held at the Point Loma Assembly at 3035 Talbot Street, San Diego, CA 92106 from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday, April 29, 2023.

Starting today, aspiring junior bands and emcees can submit applications to audition for one of the five open spots for the upcoming shows by visiting the Point Loma Summer Concerts website. All participants for the junior bands and emcees must be 18 years of age or younger on April 29, 2023. Applications are due by April 28, 2023, at 5:00 PM.

During the audition, the non-profit organization will also be looking for patriotic singers to open each of the concerts. Unlike the junior bands and emcees, there is no age requirement for patriotic singers.

“We are excited to have this opportunity for junior bands, junior emcees, and patriotic singers, especially after having to deal with the Covid pandemic,” said Junior Band Director DJ Villegas. “This unique experience gives our performers an incredible platform to showcase their talent to a live audience and what we hope empowers young people to further pursue their passions.”

Concerts over the last several decades have been increasingly successful, and ALL have been possible because of the generosity of sponsors. Because of these sponsors, PLSC has grown into one of the biggest volunteer-run community concert series in San Diego, boasting an average concert attendance of more than 3500 fans. Opportunities are still available to sponsor on various levels.
