From the Ocean Beach Community Development Corporation:
Here is why the OB Veterans Plaza needs your help.
The current Veterans Plaza is in disrepair with many of the inscriptions, including a Medal of Honor recipient, being so eroded by the corrosive nature of the salt air and a high amount of foot traffic, that many of the names have become illegible.
These are men and women who fought and, for some, paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. We need to come together as a community to pay our respect and honor those who protected us by building a more respectful place of honor for our Veterans.
The OBCDC, along with the OB Town Council, OB Mainstreet Association, OB Planning Board, OB Community Foundation, and the OB Historical Society, have set out to rebuild a brand new Veterans Plaza that will last as a place of respect and honor; a granite wall with the names inscribed within. You can see the design on our website: http://www.obcdc.org/veterans-plaza/
We have already secured all the necessary permits, have already secured a community based design for the new Veterans Plaza, and are ready to build the new Veterans Plaza Memorial....we just need to raise the money to start construction on the project.
We have an initial goal of $10,000 to get the current 84 Veterans names off the ground and restore the ground where the current plaza resides. We are on our way to reaching that goal, but we need your help so our plans and permits won't be in vain.
Please join our effort with a donation of $20, $50, $100, $250, or even more. And please share this with your family and friends to help us spread the word. Every bit will help us to build a respectful place of honor for our Veterans – Thank you for your support!
