A Binational Crush: The Wine Pub Brings Valle de Guadalupe to Point Loma on September 18
Proceeds from guided wine tasting to benefit abandoned children in Baja
SAN DIEGO, August 23, 2016— In wine country, September marks crush season—the time when grapes are harvested, picked and crushed for a year’s supply of wine. On Sunday, September 18, The Wine Pub and renowned wine experts from Valle de Guadalupe will provide the full harvest season experience on a local patio in Point Loma. A portion of the proceeds from bottle sales during the event will benefit Corazon de Vida, an organization providing support for orphaned and abandoned children in Baja, Mexico.
According to The Wine Pub, Valle de Guadalupe in Baja California is home to some of the most untouched and spectacular wineries on the coast. To share the magic and charm of Baja-made wines, The Wine Pub invites guests to join the owner of Hacienda La Lomita winery, Fernando Perez Castro, and popular wine connoisseur Fernando Gaxiola of Baja Wine + Food for a fun and educational wine tasting that tastes good and does good.
“While mostly known for its striking stretch of locally owned wineries, it’s important to recognize that more than 6,000 children live without a roof over their heads in Baja,” says Sandy Hanshaw, owner of The Wine Pub. “It’s our responsibility to recognize the beautiful parts of this region and also the parts where we can help – even in a small way.”
From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on September 18, The Wine Pub’s patio welcomes guests for a taste of renowned Baja wines beneath the shade of the trees on a San Diego summer evening. Fernando Castro will guide a five-course tasting of Baja-grown wines and stop at each table for one-on-one time with guests. Castro will explain the importance of crush season for local wineries and the connection between a vineyard’s terroir and the taste of each wine and how it differs each year.
Featured wines for the Crush party include:
• Discreto Blanco White Blend
• Cursi Grenache Rose
• Discreto Encanto Red Blend
• Tinto de la Hacienda
• Pagano
To get the Valle de Guadalupe experience in San Diego, the Crush Party is $25 per person and includes five wine tastings guided by Baja California’s finest. Reservations are required and tickets are available here.
For anyone interested in visiting Baja’s wine country during crush season, Hanshaw has organized a wine tour to Valle de Guadalupe the day prior to the Crush Party—Saturday, September 17. Due to popularity, The Wine Pub anticipates a sold out tour. The next day trip to Baja California is scheduled for Saturday, October 8. Please click here for more information.
