Friends of OB is a collaboration of the Ocean Beach MainStreet Association and The Peninsula Alliance.
Contributions made to Friends of OB will support the OBMA's Clean & Safe Program with the mission to educate merchants and community members and promote a safe and clean environment throughout the Ocean Beach business districts.
The CLEAN in Clean & Safe
- Power-washing sidewalks
- Maintaining trash receptacles
- Graffiti & sticker removal
- Doggie poop bag dispensers
It takes a village of volunteers to help keep OB Clean.

The SAFE in Clean & Safe
Our goal is raise funds to have the Security Team in Ocean Beach seven days a week, along with create an Ambassador Program.
Security Team helps to:
- Deter aggressive panhandling* and other nuisance behavior
- Utilize the Letter of Agency to remove trespassers from private property
- Assist with directions and information
- Maintain open communications with police to report ongoing issues
- Add a presence in business districts to prevent undesirable behavior
*As defined in the San Diego Municipal Code.
Keeping OB Beautiful
- Mural project
- Artist utility box project
- Maintaining banners in the Newport Avenue and Sunset Cliffs Banner District
- Holiday banners throughout the Newport Avenue Banner District
- Holiday banners throughout the Sunset Cliffs Banner District
- Holiday decorations throughout the Downtown area
- Continuous maintenance of the cribs and landscaping along Newport Avenue
In addition to the day-to-day elements overseen by the OBMA, we continuously work with the City of San Diego on projects such as trimming the palm trees, curb and light post repairs and much more.
Each year the Ocean Beach MainStreet Association puts up the Happy OB Holidays cross street swag. Contributions made to Friends of OB help keep this tradition alive!
The Ocean Beach MainStreet Association adorns the Ocean Beach Banner Districts with holiday banners every year. Contributions made to Friends of OB help keep this tradition alive!
